How does a wetsuit work?

When surfing in cold water, having the right wetsuit is crucial to your comfort and performance. Wetsuits are designed to keep you warm by trapping a thin layer of water between your skin and the suit, which your body then heats up.

It is therefore intended that you will get wet when you wear a wetsuit.

Flexibility, insulation and protection from UV rays are just a few of the things that wetsuits help with! Wetsuits come in many shapes, sizes and thicknesses.

EQUIPMENT THAT MATCHES SEASON AND ACTIVITY

Surfing wetsuits come in different thicknesses, typically from 2mm to 6/4mm. The first number indicates the thickness of the chest and legs, the second number relates to the thickness of the arms. Generally, the arms are made a little thinner to allow for easy paddling and maneuverability. A general rule of thumb: the colder the water, the thicker the wetsuit you need. For water temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius and above, a 3/2mm wetsuit is usually sufficient. For water temperatures in the mid-10s, a 4/3mm wetsuit is a good choice. And for water temperatures below 7 degrees, a 5/4mm or 6/4mm wetsuit is recommended.

For Stand Up Paddle, you can get by with a 5/3 all year round unless you surf waves with your board.

Kitesurfer or surfer, we recommend a 4/3 suit for summer and a 6/4 for the winter months.

We recommend wearing gloves and shoes from around October 1st - June 1st
